HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT: The beginnings of Confucianism are traced between 1776 and 1112a.c where the Shang dynasty encourages a certain cultural-spiritual environment. Here divination was practiced in relation to the spirits. At the end of the Han Dynasty Confucianism was the state ideology, then scholars of the Wei-Jin dynasty introduced elements to Taoism. Confucianism came to face competition with Buddhism and Taoism. A great representative or - in better words - impeller of Confucianism was Han Yu who was a very important person inside the Confucian administration. Confucianism at the beginning was taught by the administrative leaders of the nation, an element that helped Han Yu to elaborate a Neo-Confucianism that was based on ancient Confucian texts and as a product of cultural and religious friction with Buddhism and Taoism. FOUNDER: Kong - Zi better known as "Confusion" in the West, is believed to have been born between 552 and 551 BC i...

Zen Buddhism

Zen is a school of Mahayana Buddhism. The word zen is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese word chan (禪), which in turn derives from the Sanskrit word dhiana, which means 'meditation'. It should be noted that Japanese teacher Daisetsu Teitaro Suzuki equates dhyana with zazen1 (in Chinese 坐禅 zu-chán, 'sitting meditation'). Apart from theoretical or intellectual knowledge, Zen seeks the experience of wisdom beyond rational discourse.2 The teachings of Zen include various sources of Mahāyāna thought, including Prajna-paramitá literature such as the Prajñá-paramitá-sutra and the teachings of Yogacara and the school tatha-gata-garbha. Zen emerged from different schools of Buddhism and was first recorded in China in the seventh century, then scattered south to Vietnam and east to Korea and Japan. Traditionally it is given the credit of bringing Zen to China to Bodhidharma. ORIGIN OF BUDDHISM ZEN: Like any Buddhist school, Zen has its roots in In...

THERAVADA BUDDHISM

Imagen
Theravāda is one of the 19 nikaya schools that formed the original Buddhism. They developed in India during the centuries following the death of Buddha (420-368 BC). The name Theravāda means 'the word [doctrine] of the ancients'. It is the oldest school of Buddhism, it is relatively conservative and the closest to early Buddhism, so it could be considered within orthodoxy. They base their tradition on the so-called Canon Pali, compendium where they transcribed the speeches that the Buddha gave throughout his life after enlightenment. However, this is not the main characteristic of the Theravada school, since in all spiritual traditions, the various variants will be awarded preservation of the original doctrine. As the historian Richard Gombrich points out: "In doctrinal terms the Theravadin clarify that they are vibhajja-vadin, that is to say 'analysts' who are pleased to classify the psychological states."  Theravāda Buddhism is today the predomi...

Mahayana Buddhism

Mahāyāna is written in Sanskrit: यायान which literally means Great vehicle, is one of the three main branches of Buddhism. Some of the areas practiced are China, Tibet, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Taiwan. The Mahāyāna developed the esoteric Vajrayāna which claims to combine all previous schools. ORIGINS: Scholars believe that mahāyāna, as a separate movement, began around the 1st century AD. In the south of India. The development of Mahāyāna was a slow and gradual process. Mahāyāna was not a rival school, and therefore was not the consequence of a schism (sanghabheda). Monks Mahāyāna could live without discord in the same monastery with monks of other schools, as long as they maintained the same code, although it is believed that non-Mahayana monks could have taken with some mockery the private beliefs and practices of their Mahayana brothers. The idea of a radical schism or rupture, with dramatic religious changes, simply does not accord with what we now know about Bu...

Buddhism

Buddhism is a "non-theoretical philosophical and religious doctrine" belonging to the dharmic family and, according to vedism, of the nástika type. Derived from Brahmanism, Buddhism was founded in India in the sixth century BC. C. by Buddha Gautama and has been evolving until acquiring the great diversity of schools and practices. Among them, the most representative are Mahayana Buddhism, Zen Buddhism and Theravada Buddhism. HISTORY OF BUDDHISM: Buddhism begins with the story of Siddhartha Gautama and later also known as Śākyamuni or Tathāgata. It is known that it came from the second Hindu caste, the kṣatriya, composed of warriors and nobles. Nevertheless, some scholars like Andreu Bareau affirm that it is not possible to know exactly if he was a prince or a nobleman. The life and teachings of Gautama were transmitted orally to the first written compilation of Buddhism, called the CanonPāḷi, where the events of his life appear scattered. But there will not...

Imagen
Imagen
The content present in this Blog, aims to synthesize the necessary information of the religions of the world. It is necessary, therefore, that we approach a definition of religion. Wikipedia defines it as "a human activity that usually encompasses beliefs and practices on issues of existential, moral and supernatural." There are religions that are organized in more or less precise ways, while others lack a formal structure; Or less integrated into the traditions. " Defining what is Religion (from the Latin religare or re-legere) has been and is the subject of controversy among the specialists. For G. Lenski, it is "a shared system of associated beliefs and practices, articulated around the nature of the forces that shape the destiny of human beings."  For his part, the anthropologist Clifford Geertz proposes an alternative definition: "Religion is a system of symbols that works to establish vigorous, penetrating and enduring states of mind...

Hinduismo

Imagen
